Anthroposophy

Anthroposophy is also sometimes referred to as 'spiritual science'. Anthroposophy was described by Rudolf Steiner in the following way:

By anthroposophy I mean a scientific investigation of the spiritual world which looks beyond the one-sided approaches of mere science or the usual mysticism. Before anthroposophy attempts to penetrate the supersensible world it develops in the soul of the researcher the faculties not yet active in everyday consciousness or conventional science which enable such a penetration.

Anthroposophie ist ein Erkenntnissweg, der das Geistige im Menschenwesen zum Geistigen im Weltenall führen möchte. Sie tritt im Menschen als Herzens- und Gefühls-bedürfnis auf. Sie muss ihre Rechtfertigung dadurch finden, dass sie diesem Bedürfnisse Befriedigung gewähren kann. Anerkennen kann Anthroposophie nur derjenige, der in ihr findet, has er aus seinem Gemüte heraus suchen muss. Anthroposophen können daher nur Menschen sein, die gewisse Fragen über das Wesen des Menschen und die Welt so als Lebensnotwendigkeit empfinden, wie man Hunger und Durst empfindet.

Anthroposophy is a path of knowledge whose objective is to guide the spiritual in man to the spiritual in the universe. For the individual it is felt as a basic need of the heart and of feeling. It must find its justification in the satisfaction of this necessity. It will be recognized only by those who find in it what they are seeking in their hearts. Anthroposophists may therefore only be those who feel certain questions about the nature of man and the universe as intensely as they feel hunger and thirst.
